Dr Abigail Walker is a dual fellowship trained surgeon who practises all facets of ear, nose and throat surgery with a special interest in nasal health, allergy, and complex surgery of the skull base.
Born and raised in Scotland, she moved to London to undertake surgical training. During training she discovered the complex and fascinating world of endoscopic surgery performed via the nasal cavity, and fellowships in both London and Brisbane to develop advanced skills and a deep understanding of nasal health. She continues to practise all aspects of ENT surgery, and takes delight in caring for patients across the spectrum of age, conditions, and footy affiliations.
Dr Walker has published and presented a wide range of research related to ENT surgery, including work on smell disorders, sinus disease that has failed medical or surgical therapy, sinus disease that has failed prior surgical therapy, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, benign and malignant sinus and skull base tumours, as well as common ENT conditions such as ear infections and neck lumps. During her time in London, she completed a Masters in Allergy and received the Dean’s prize for the highest awarded thesis looking at allergic rhinitis in childhood.
Dr Walker considers herself a “surgeon-scientist” and is active in ongoing research projects including the role of bacteria in maintaining sinus health, using novel treatments to address allergies in the nose, and development of new technology that can permit drug testing without the use of human or animal subjects.
