Associate Professor James Bowman was raised and educated in Queensland. He is a University of Queensland graduate in both Dentistry (1994) and Medicine (2001) and then after completion of advanced surgical training in Otolaryngology spent the next two years completing fellowships in Head and Neck/Skull Base surgery in London and then further anterior and lateral skull base surgery in Italy before returning to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
He is currently the Co-director of Skull Base Surgery at PA Hospital since 2017 and co-founded the skull base multidisciplinary unit in 2013. He is also a member of the head and neck cancer MDT at PA Hospital since 2011. AProf Bowman currently works closely with many Neurosurgeons performing approaches in anatomically complex areas around and into the cranial cavity to address both benign and malignant lesions including pituitary tumours and vestibular schwannomas.
Over the ensuing years, AProf Bowman has regularly worked at the PA and Mater Hospital campuses as well as Children Hospital Queensland. AProf Bowman is active in ongoing research involving novel treatment modalities to manage cutaneous malignancy as well as supervising higher research degree students through the University of Queensland. He has initiated and developed, along with his students, 3D printed temporal bones for training and surgical planning purposes.
James treats general ENT conditions but has particular interest in sinus disease, paediatric ENT, head and neck/thyroid and skull base surgery both benign and malignant pathology.
